Surprise! Episode 04 is a short documentary shot in Almerìa, south of Spain, known to be the garden of Europe with its huge greenhouses. The region also happens to be a transit for migrants. This leads to a particular setting between people in exhile, seeking recognition, and the agricultural industry looking for cheap workforce.
Traveling 22h by train to Almerìa, a robotic voice regularly reminds you of the gap between the footboard and the platform. Thanks to it I never fell in that space. On-site, I met Ayoub. He guided me through dangerous spaces, funny places, warm ones. Then I wondered why the gap between the footboard and the platform was the only one notified, where here in Almerìa there are plenty of spaces worth interest. Not that they are all dangerous, but their singularities deserve to be brought into the foreground.
FOR YOUR SAFETY, BE AWARE OF THE SPACE BETWEEN
is a short film exploring different kinds of limits, spaces in-between. Five cases caught between blurry realities are documented in the environment of Almerìa. Imitating the robotic voice of the train, a safety notice is produced for each case. In the end, one wonders what is most important to be aware of for “your safety”.
